Monnex™ Dry Powder
Welcome to the home of Monnex™
The World’s highest performing, firefighting Dry Chemical Powder
Recognised as the world renowned Monnex™ firefighting, Dry Chemical Powder. Monnex™ is the highest performing and most powerful dry chemical powder for Class B, C and E flammable materials. Often copied but never matched in performance, the original Monnex™ is manufactured in England. If it is not “Made in England”, it is not Monnex™.
How Does Monnex Work?
High performance Monnex™ dry chemical powder is based on potassium allophanate, a potassium bicarbonate – urea complex originally developed by ICI in the UK.
Unique Performance
As with all BCE powders, Monnex™ interferes with the chemical reactions occurring in the combustion zone, but Monnex has a special ability that puts it in a class of its own.
High temperatures in the combustion zone cause Monnex™ powder to explode or decrepitate, breaking down the powder into minute particles within the fire. This dramatically increases its surface area for rapid quenching of the free radicals that perpetuate the chain reaction of the fire. Unrivalled speed of control and fire extinction is therefore achieved.
Stage 1 – Release
The distance between the operator and the seat of the fire is key to fighting a fire safely. Every grain of Monnex™ is sized to ensure maximum projection as the content is ejected from the vessel. Too small, and the grains will blow in the wind or stay inside the body, too large and they will not perform to their optimum.
Stage 2 – Decrepitation
Each grain starts to collect the free-radicals which are created as the fire burns. The more of these particles a grain collects the hotter it gets, and this is the point at which Monnex’s real power comes alive. When a grain of Monnex™ reaches a critical temperature within the fire environment it undergoes a unique process called decrepitation. This process is similar to a mini explosion where the grain of Monnex™ cracks and breaks up into hundreds of smaller particles, thereby increasing the surface area of Monnex™ almost exponentially. The collection of freeradicals starts again. This is what makes Monnex™ the perfect powder. Monnex™ will perform each time irrespective of the application skills of the operator.
Hazards & Applications
Wide Range of Hazards
Monnex™ is ideal for all Class BCE fires, including a wide range of hydrocarbon oils, gasoline, diesel, fuel oils, liquefied gases like hydrogen, liquefied natural gas (LNG), coal gas, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It is also particularly effective against industrial chemicals like alcohols, ketones, ethers and esters, which conventional dry chemical powders find more difficult to knockdown.
Flammable liquids
Fire involving flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel, oils, kerosene, etc.
Flammable gases
Fire involving flammable gases such as propane, hydrogen, methane, natural gas etc.
Electrical Fires
Fire involving electrical items such as fuse boxes, computers, transformers, etc.
Applications
Portable extinguishers or mobile trolley units, dry chemical powder skids or specialised dual agent systems and fire trucks
All high risk petrochemical, oil and gas (POG) installations as well as extensive military and aviation
Rapid fire extinguishment by plant personnel and first responders where speed is essential
Fires involving L.N.G, alcohols, ketones and esters
Approvals & Testings
UL299C - Monnex™ was the first powder of its kind to attain such a high approval rating.
EN3 rated extinguisher body, it is possible to extinguish a 144B pan fire (4.54m2) with just 1.5kg of powder. When the same test is repeated on a 233B pan (7.23m2), just 2.3kg of powder is used. This demonstrates the power of Monnex™, making the first strike – the only strike.
